How to use a Dock on both Mac monitors
By Grove LLC · Updated
The short answer
macOS can make its Dock accessible across displays when Displays have separate Spaces is enabled. If you want a second, familiar Dock on the other display, DualDock mirrors your Dock and hides on displays that are using full-screen apps.
Start with the built-in display settings
Decide whether you need to reach the system Dock from either screen or keep a second Dock beside the work you are doing. Those are different workflows. Check System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Mission Control for Displays have separate Spaces. Apple documents this setting as controlling whether the Dock is available across displays.
Use an extended desktop rather than mirroring the same desktop image. Put a window on each screen and check that you can work in them independently. This gives you a useful baseline before installing another app.
Add a second Dock with DualDock
DualDock follows the apps and order you configured in the system Dock. You can launch an app or bring a running app forward from the display in front of you. It also mirrors running indicators, badges, folders, Downloads, and Trash when the required permission is enabled.
- Check that your Mac runs macOS 14 or later and uses two displays.
- Purchase DualDock, download the DMG, and drag the app to Applications.
- Open the app and enter the license key from your confirmation page.
- Enable DualDock in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Check app order and try switching to an already running app from the second display.
Check full-screen behavior before settling into work
Open one app in full screen. DualDock should hide on that screen while remaining available on the other. When both displays use full-screen apps, DualDock hides on both. This is useful when a video, presentation, or game should occupy an entire screen.
DualDock supplements the system Dock and reads its layout locally. It does not rewrite your Dock preferences. Its one-time $3.99 license supports two Macs; activation and renewal need internet, while an activated Mac can work offline for up to 14 days.
Common questions
Does macOS have a Dock setting for multiple displays?
Yes. Displays have separate Spaces affects Dock availability across displays. DualDock adds a second Dock with its own full-screen-aware visibility.
Can I keep the Dock over a full-screen video?
DualDock intentionally hides on the display playing full-screen content. It can remain available on the other display.
