Mac Dock not showing on your second monitor? Check these settings
By Grove LLC · Updated
The short answer
First identify whether Apple's Dock or DualDock is missing. Check Dock auto-hide and display settings for the system Dock; for DualDock, also check full-screen state, license activation, and Accessibility permission.
Identify which Dock is missing
If you have never installed DualDock, start with the macOS settings. If you use DualDock, distinguish its second Dock from Apple's system Dock. That distinction keeps you from changing a macOS preference when the second app simply needs permission or activation.
Look at whether the missing Dock occurs only during full-screen playback, after a Space change, or immediately after opening the app. Write down that trigger before changing anything. A repeatable trigger is much easier to diagnose than an occasional disappearance.
Check the basics in order
Work through one setting at a time and recheck the result. Avoid deleting Dock preferences as an early troubleshooting step; you should not need to erase your app layout to establish whether a display or permission setting is responsible.
- Leave full screen temporarily so both displays show desktop windows.
- In Desktop & Dock settings, check the auto-hide preference and Displays have separate Spaces.
- For DualDock, open its License menu and check that this Mac is activated.
- Open Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure DualDock is enabled.
- Quit and reopen DualDock, then compare the second Dock with the system Dock.
Know when hidden is the correct state
DualDock hides on a display using a full-screen app. If both screens are full screen, no DualDock panel should cover either one. Return a screen to its desktop before deciding the app is stuck.
If the problem continues on an ordinary desktop, contact support with your macOS version, Mac model, display arrangement, and the exact action that makes the Dock disappear. Include whether the License menu reports activation. Do not send your license key in a public screenshot or forum post.
Common questions
Should I reset all Dock preferences first?
Start with display state, auto-hide, permission, and activation checks. Resetting preferences can discard a useful layout without addressing the cause.
Why did the second Dock stop working offline?
DualDock's activated license can work offline for up to 14 days. Connect to the internet to renew its activation, then check the License menu.
